brahma farm

In the first phase of refreshed site design at this historic farm on the Columbia Gorge, we were tasked with re-invigorating the woodland entry and pond area of the 50 acre property. With a range of microclimates coursing through this exposed Columbia River bluff landscape, and varying character between the native woodland zones and manicured pastoral fields, we were faced with the unique challenge of creating resilient, distinct and intimate landscape nodes that amplified the seasonal shifts eloquently.

Our initial work emphasized reconnaissance studies on-site, visits throughout several seasons, and research into the most hardy plant communities suited for such an extreme site (with winds piercing < 70 mph). With mature woodland corridors and hedgerows already present on-site, we focused on the understory, intimate scale planting design to bring a ‘feminine quality to the expansive masculine tone of the pastoral landscape’ as requested by the client. As the concept design phase comes to a close, we’re currently working with the clients on phasing the installation and are excited to witness the evolution of these historic sites and continue work in the Historic Columbia Gorge Corridor.
